5 Ways to Prepare Your Heating System for Winter
The leaves are changing color and sweater weather has arrived! Regardless of the type, make, and model of your furnace, heat pump, geothermal system or boiler, there are several steps you can take to help prepare your heating system for winter. Follow these tips from JK Mechanical’s heating & cooling experts:
Replace or Clean Your Air Filter
A clogged and dirty filter is one of the most common causes of a faulty heating system. When the filter gets clogged, air is prevented from drawing through the heating system properly, causing your system to work harder, run less efficiently, and can even cause larger (and more expensive) issues in the long run. JK Mechanical’s HVAC Service Technicians recommend replacing your air filter every 1-6 months, depending on the size of the filter and air quality factors in your home.
Check Your Controls
If you haven’t already, now is the time to put your thermostat into heating mode and check to be sure it’s set at a comfortable setting for the heating months. The start of the season is also a great time to check on your programmable thermostat settings to be sure they’re set to the most efficient schedule for your home. If you aren’t sure what settings are best for your home’s needs (or don’t remember since last winter!), send JK Mechanical a message or ask your trained HVAC service technician at your next appointment.
Clear Vents and Debris
The change of seasons is a great time to check your furnace or other exhaust vents on the outside of your home and be sure they are clear of leaves, lawn clippings, or other debris that may have built up over the summer months.
Consider Your Indoor Air Quality
Most of us spend more time indoors during the cooler months, and this year especially indoor air quality has been a top concern for our clients. If you use a humidifier in the winter, check your settings as well as your humidifier pad. Whole-Home Air Purifiers such as the REME-HALO-LED or the Carrier Infinity Air Purifier use advanced technology to capture and eliminate up to 99% of germs and contaminants that pass through your home heating and ventilation system*†. Through October 31st, receive up to $200 off select Indoor Air Quality solutions from JK Mechanical. Contact our service department today to learn more.
Schedule Your JK Precision Tune-Up
Aside from the tips above, scheduling professional maintenance 1-2 times per year can make a significant difference in your heating system’s efficiency and performance. Your trusted JK technician will thoroughly clean and examine your entire heating system in order to optimize performance and catch any potential problems before they grow. If you are due for your preventative maintenance, contact our team today and one of our representatives will be happy to schedule your appointment.
